My unofficial Wii Fit Experiment

By Glen McNamee | July 5, 2008

Wii fitInspired by the Official Wii Fit Experiment I’ve been continuing to do my Wii Fit training every day (except for the two days I was away). This week for the first time, since I started traing, I’ve managed to lose weight. Yes, I’ve managed to lose two pounds this week, which moves me out of overweight into ideal (just).

I did over an hours training on Friday to celebrate. So, although I am sore today, I am gonna keep it up.

onehundredpushups Week 1 Day 1 (Take 2)

By Glen McNamee | June 30, 2008

onehundredpushupsAfter feeling a bit under the weather on Friday of last week, and therefore being unable to complete Week 1 Day 3, I’ve decided to repeat Week 1.

So today was first day of week one again, and I managed to complete it while doing a total of 46 press ups.  (10, 10, 8, 6, and then maxing out with 12). Which is less than a managed last week, but this is because this time I made sure I was doing the press ups properly, rather than doing them to quickly. I felt because I was rushing last week I was favouring my right arm too much. I don’t want to end up with one arm much bigger than the other.

Hopefully, I’ll be doing the next day on Wednesday. I’m not sure yet, because I’ve got to do some travelling with work.

Moviated without Tea.

By Glen McNamee | June 29, 2008

Hello All, It’s been a busy few days but I’ve got a quick post for you that I’ve been wanting to post since Wednesday.

I’ve had a increase in motivation lately. I’ve been getting up early every weekday morning (because I currently need to start work at 8.15 at the latest),  I’ve been drinking a lot less tea (down from a minimum of six cups to a maximum of three a day) and a lot more water. I’m drinking more water mainly because I’m doing a lot more exercises. As well as doing more than thirty minutes Wii Fit everyday, I’m also giving the hundredpushups a try, as I hope you’ve already noticed.  I had planned to complete week one by now, however I wasn’t too well on Friday and therefore wasn’t able to complete day three, so I’m going to start week one again on Monday.

The other thing to have excited me in the last week or so, is blogging. Since I installed WordPress I’ve been typing up lots of posts, most of them are still in draft but I’m enjoying blogging like I haven’t done for a long long time, so look out for more posts coming soon.

Anniversary Gift

By Glen McNamee | June 29, 2008

As I mentioned in a previous post the Wife got me a wedding Anniversary Gift while we were in Legoland and I did promise to post about it. Well here it is;

Lego Creator 4953

It’s rather cool lego kit called ‘LEGO Creator 4953 Fast Flyers‘, that can be built into a Jet Fighter, Hovercraft and a Helicopter. I have to say the wife get certainly knows what presents I will like.

Redirecting misguided travelers.

By Glen McNamee | June 25, 2008

I’m managed to divert the old blog posts (that are went missing because of the blog upgrade, but are still listed by search engines) to the correct locations.

The old blog indexed the posts by date, however WordPress indexes via a unique post id (e.g. 1 for the first post, 2 for the next, etc), so I wrote a little bit of code that searches the old blog database table using the date (provided in URL) from the result it pulls out the post’s title and uses that data to search the WordPress blog database table for the correct post id. Once that is found the PHP Header command is used to 301 redirect the page to correct Wordpress page and update the search engine.

Who said I wouldn’t need any PHP/MYSQL skills when I moved to WordPress?

onehundredpushups Week 1 Day 2

By Glen McNamee | June 25, 2008

onehundredpushupsIt seems the onehundredpushups thing is quite the internet fad at the moment, I’ve seen  lots of blog and tweats about it.

Today was the secound day of week one, and I managed to complete it while doing a total of 59 pushups.  (12, 12, 10, 10, and then maxing out with 15). It was a lot harder than day one, and I think I was still feeling the effects of that, so I’ll probably be stiff tomorrow.

I’ll be doing the next day on Friday, hopefully I can complete week one without having to repeat it.

Wii Fit day forty something, probably.

By Glen McNamee | June 24, 2008

That’s forty something days since I first played the game, not forty something days I’ve been training. In hindsight that would have made much more sense as a title.

Anyway I’ve been training everyday without fail (excluding the weekends) on Wii Fit, and I’ve managed to beat some of previous bests, thanks to the motivation I got from the Wii fit thread on the forum where people have been posting their High Scores.

I briefly got my fit age down to 25, I’ve done over 10 hours training and unlocked the Bronze Fit Pig for my efforts,  but most importantly I’ve managed to get a prefect score on Heading (Normal)

Wii Fit High Score.

onehundredpushups Week 1 Day 1

By Glen McNamee | June 23, 2008

onehundredpushupsI’ve been wanting to increase the number of press ups and sit ups I can do for a while, so when I happened across http://hundredpushups.com/ I thought I would give it a go over the next six weeks.

I did the initial test on Friday, and I managed to do twenty proper press ups without a break.

So today was the first day of week one, and I managed to complete it while doing a total of 49 pushups.  I’ll be doing the next one on Wednesday, and I’ll keep you updated

It’s a bit windy out…

By Glen McNamee | June 22, 2008

Just the kind of weather for kite flying, so that just what Conor and I having been trying to do this afternoon. Unfortunately we don’t have a normal kite, we have a ’stunt’ kite.  Stunt in this case obviously means ‘Smashes into the ground rather than flying despite this being the windiest day ever’. It’s been so windy that after less than an hour of unsuccessful kite flying, the string snapped (but this is a great excuse to throw the kite in the bin and buy a new one).

For another example of how bad the wind has been today here is a quick look at the trees where we were flying our kite.
